45-year-old Calabar Man Murdered His Wife For Allegedly Refusing To Have Sex With Him.

A 45-year-old man, identified as 'Bassey Akwa Ibom,' murdered his wife for allegedly refusing to have sex with him. 

Both the husband and the deceased are residents of Big Iwuru community in Biase LGA of Cross River State. According to locals, they were farmers and had lived with their seven children. The incident occured last week on Thursday at noon. The duo reportedly had gone for their usual farm work, but had an argument. Eyewitnesses say the man demanded that his wife had sex with him, but she told him she was tired and pleaded to wait until they get home. However, the husband was reluctant to let go of her and beat her up. The woman started shouting, but, as no one came to her rescue, she was beaten to death by the husband.

The man has been arrested and detained at Biase Divisional Police station.

Some locals confirmed that the suspect had a habit to torture his spouse physically. Their neighbours had previously broken up fights between them, and the husband used to threaten to deal with her or send her packing.

Village indigenes are worried over the development, as they now have to cooperate with the police in their investigation of the case, while local youths have fled the settlement for fear of being arrested. Moreover, the fate of the seven children of the couple is still uncertain.

Some expressed their intentions to ban Bassey from the community once he is released from the police, blaming him for committing a grave crime against his host commuity. It was gathered that the man could have been lynched by the angry mob but for the police intervention.
