Bayelsa Commissioner for Sports' Sister Kidnapped.

 

Kidnappers struck at Oloibiri, a Bayelsa community, on Monday and abducted Joyce Ebua, a sister to the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports, Maitama Obodo. The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Hilary Opara, confirmed the incident. He said the police had begun investigations.

Oloibiri is the community where oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria, in 1956.
Monday’s kidnap occurred at a time security agencies in the state are yet to locate the whereabouts of President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle, Inengite Nitabai. Mr. Nitabai was abducted on February 23 by some gunmen at his compound in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area.

MPB leant that five gunmen stormed the home of Ms. Ebua at about 8.55 p.m. on Monday and whisked her away through the water channels at the back of her house.
The gunmen reportedly shot sporadically into the air before whisking their victim away to an unknown place in the creeks.
One of the kidnappers was reportedly dressed in the uniform of the Mobile Police, MOPOL.
“They were five in number and one of them was wearing MOPOL uniform. They forcefully abducted the victim and put her in a waiting speedboat at the waterfront behind her house to an unknown location”, a witness said.
Monday’s incident reportedly jolted the newly posted Commander of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Emmanuel Atewe.
Mr. Atewe, a Major General, was said to have summoned all the JTF officials to its headquarters in Yenagoa.
I  learnt that Mr. Atewe led troops to the crime scene in Oloibiri on Tuesday morning.
While speaking on the kidnap, the Media Coordinator of the JTF, Onyema Nwachukwu, said: “The command has activated the security network on both land and waterways in conjunction with other security agencies to locate and track down the kidnappers”.
Kidnapping for ransom is on the rise in Bayelsa despite the punishment of the crime with the death penalty.
