Building Collapse Claims 1 Life, Injures 17 in New York City

On Wednesday morning, an apartment collapsed in New York City leaving one person dead and at least 17 injured. The building was brought down by an explosion that happened near 1646 Park Avenue. One person with "serious trauma" was being treated at Harlem Hospital, while the hospital expected more injured people to arrive.

The authorities closed-off several city blocks surrounding the scene as they search for anyone trapped in the structure. Most of the buildings in the area are five- or six-storey apartment buildings with stores on ground level.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority issued a tweet advising that train service in and out of Grand Central station on the Metro-North line has been suspended while workers clear debris from the blast off the tracks.
