Just 24 hours after the bombing in
Nyanya, Abuja, and few hours after gunmen allegedly stormed a school in
Borno abducting 200 girls, Nigeria’s president was in Kano, a key state
in the North West of the country for a Peoples Democratic Party rally.
In Kano, the president rallied his
fellow PDP members and welcomed the ex-governor of Kano state, Ibrahim
Shekarau into the PDP fold.
The president used the occasion to
attack the governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who had said in a
statement two days ago that he regretted voting for the president and
will not welcome him when he visits. Pres. Jonathan said the Kano
governor did not vote for him in 2011, citing the PDP primary/convention
when according to him, Kwankwaso “walked out of the PDP convention.”
The president’s spokesman, Reuben Abati,
described the crowd that showed up to welcome the president as
“massive” and “jubilant”. He said “A memorable day in Kano today, people
on the streets hailing President Jonathan, crowd stretching all the way
towards the airport. Amazing!”
From Kano, the president proceeded to
Ibadan where he was scheduled to visit yesterday before the blast. He
went to pay homage to the Olubadan of Ibadan who clocked 100 years
yesterday.
Thereafter he tweeted these photos of the crowd.
